What is the Temporary Reimbursement of Fees for Internationally Educated and Inactive Nurses program?
The Temporary Reimbursement of Fees for Internationally Educated and Inactive Nurses program is designed to provide financial assistance to nurses who have obtained their education outside of the country or who have been inactive in their profession. It aims to cover expenses related to credential evaluation, examination fees, and other costs associated with becoming licensed and practicing in a particular jurisdiction.
Who is eligible for reimbursement through this program?
Internationally educated nurses and inactive nurses who submit, or have submitted, their Reinstatement or General Class registration applications to the CNO between August 18, 2022 and March 31, 2024 are eligible for reimbursement.
Fees for the following application steps are eligible for reimbursement:
- Application to CNO (both General and Temporary Class)
- Jurisprudence Exam
- Language Proficiency Test
- Background Check
- Registration Exam
- CNO Initial Registration and Annual Membership Fee
Note that expenses must be incurred between August 18, 2022 and March 31, 2024 in order to be eligible for reimbursement.

In order to receive reimbursement for any expenses, an applicant must have a Canadian bank account in their name.
December 15, 2023 was the final date to submit expenses incurred between August 18, 2022 and March 31, 2023.

Submit an application via https://ontariohealth.research.net/r/TRFNapplication
- Your Email Address, CNO Application Number, and CNO Application Type will be used to verify your eligibility directly with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
- When the CNO confirms that a nurse is eligible for reimbursement, the program team will ask the nurse to submit their banking information and process payment.
