Eligibility Criteria to register as a RN in NOVA-SCOTIA. (No NNAS required)

The Nova Scotia College of Nursing (NSCN) has implemented changes to increase the number of nurses, focusing on following points by bypassing the NNAS process:

  • Expanded options to fulfill English Language proficiency requirements
  • Quicker access to the registration exam
  • Faster entry into the nursing practice
  • Accelerated pathways for returning to practice
  • Revised policies and streamlined processes

These changes aim to make the licensure process more flexible and efficient.

To determine if you hold a current license that allows you to practice as an RN in one of the seven specified countries and that your license is in good standing, they have two methods:

  1. Review a Verification of Registration form sent directly to them from your regulatory body. If you have already sent a verification form RE004_RegistrationLicensureVerification_Rev4.pdf (nscn.ca) to the NNAS, you can “port” your NNAS Advisory Report to NSCN and then email the NNAS application number for Nova Scotia to rrt@nscn.ca.
  2. For applicants currently licensed in the USA, we can use the NURSYS online search tool to verify the status of your license.

What is conditional license and when to activate your conditional license?

A conditional license in Nova Scotia allows internationally educated nurses to practice under specific conditions while completing registration requirements, such as passing the NCLEX-RN exam. It is valid for four months and can be renewed within a 12-month period. This license ensures nurses can work while they fulfill outstanding criteria.

International Nurses Currently Registered and Licensed in the Philippines, India, Nigeria, Australia, US, UK or New Zealand | Nova Scotia College of Nursing (nscn.ca)

exam, you will receive a conditional license so you can enter practice while you are writing the exam.

The cost of the application assessment for the new expedited licensure process is $50+HST for a total of $57.50.

No, they will accept applications from people living anywhere in the world.
