Ontario’s $200 Taxpayer Rebate 2025: The Ontario government is introducing a $200 taxpayer rebate in 2025 to provide immediate financial relief to families facing high interest rates and the federal carbon tax.

This Ontario’s $200 Taxpayer Rebate will be available to all eligible adults in Ontario who have filed their 2023 Income Tax and Benefit Return by December 31, 2024. In addition, eligible families will receive an extra $200 for each child under 18. For instance, a family of five, consisting of two adults and three children, could receive a total of $1,000 if they meet the eligibility criteria.

The distribution of rebate payments commenced in early 2025, with recipients receiving their payments exclusively by cheque.

To help ease financial pressures caused by high interest rates and the federal carbon tax, the Ontario government is introducing a $200 taxpayer rebate in 2025. This Ontario’s $200 Taxpayer Rebate will provide direct financial relief to eligible individuals and families across the province.

The Ontario’s $200 taxpayer rebate is available to eligible Ontario adult tax filers, as well as families with children under 18.

To qualify for the $200 rebate, adults must meet the following criteria:

  • Be 18 years or older as of December 31, 2023
  • Be a resident of Ontario on December 31, 2023
  • File their 2023 Income Tax and Benefit Return by December 31, 2024
  • Not be bankrupt or incarcerated in 2024

Families can receive an additional $200 for each child under 18. In most cases, this payment will go to the person who receives the Canada Child Benefit (CCB) for the child and resides in Ontario.

If a family has never applied for the CCB for one or more children, they have until March 31, 2025, to apply and qualify for the $200 rebate per eligible child. Families who previously applied for the CCB but did not qualify for a payment in 2024 do not need to reapply, provided they meet all other eligibility criteria.

For shared custody arrangements, the child’s rebate will be divided according to the most recent CCB records.

Example 1: Two Parents with Three Children

Ram and Riya, a couple with three children under 18, filed their 2023 Income Tax and Benefit Returns in spring 2024. Since both are eligible adults, they will each receive a $200 rebate. Additionally, Riya, who receives the CCB, will get $600 on behalf of their three children.

Total rebate for the family: $1,000

Example 2: Shared Custody of One Child

Sham and Priya, who are separated, share custody of their 8-year-old child. Both filed their 2023 tax returns on time and receive a portion of the CCB.

Each will receive the $200 taxpayer rebate for themselves, plus an additional $100 each from the child’s $200 rebate, as it is split between them.

Total rebate per parent: $300

The Ontario government began mailing rebate cheques in early 2025. Payments are issued only by cheque, so be sure to check your mailbox for your rebate.
